Entrepreneurs respond to needs in society by creating products and services

In this interview we meet Jim, a father who developed an extraordinary effective reading system. All because he saw a need, followed his heart and convictions, and jumped in to create a product to fill that need. He and his wife Elena have spent over two years researching, testing, developing and perfecting this unique reading system.
The difference between successful entrepreneurs and dreamers, is that the dreamers may have the same good ideas, or better,  but are defeated by lack of implementation.

Entrepreneurs start business venture in response to personal needs

Entrepreneurs often start business ventures in response to a personal need and this personal interest  fuels their passion for the business.
Meet Jim and his wife Elena, they are young entrepreneurs who got into the business of selling a unique reading program which guarantees teaching children to read in 12 weeks,  by first seeing the need to teach their own child to read and then doing extensive research, testing and trial and error to develop the program.
They believe they have"stumbled onto a simple secret" that allowed them to teach their children to read at just 2 years and 11 months old. The Children Learning Reading program sells at U$37  for  6 e-books and mp3 audio clips .

Social Entrepreneurship

My most recent interest is in social entrepreneurship. I can see myself as a social entrepreneur. The job-social entrepreneur- kills two birds with one stone, for persons interested in helping to better society, as well as utilizing their entrepreneurial spirits. Our guest speaker at last entrep. class was inspirational as a young, happy, fulfilled social entrepreneur. Being driven solely by selfish motives is never deeply fulfilling and it was obvious how excited this entrepreneur was about his social entrepreneurship and the evidence of the lives he is changing each day by his choice to use his skills and talents to empower others toward sustainable development.
Surprisingly, you shall not surely starve as a social entrepreneur as the uninitiated may think. There is evidence of social entrepreneurs retiring early! There are big business ventures which social entrepreneurs may take on reap big rewards, while empowering others to do the same. There are also  grants available to social entrepreneurs, which may make allowance for salaries for the social entrepreneurs and staff.
I'm going for this entrepreneurial choice and young entrepreneurs - I hope you will too!

Gleaner and New Media

Head of The Jamaica Gleaner Company claims he doesn't read the physical Gleaner newspaper, but views it online along with other breaking news from all across the world, supplied by his iPhone. He is looking to the new media order where the services of Multimedia professionals will be the norm. Media companies will be hiring value-added employees who can write the news after gathering it, upload it, edit and present it....the full 100%. This is the level at which media companies will have to operate to compete on the global market.

Entrepreneurs play by their own rules

A  twist on a joke by Mark W. Lund  rewritten by Judi Emanuel

My nine year old son Michael slinks up and says "mummy, I got an 'A' on my math test, can you give me $500.00?"
I say: "I think you would be a lot more successful if you asked for $100.00."
Michael answers: "Look, give me a hundred dollars or give me $500.00, but don't tell me how to run my business."

Many  become entrepreneurs because they don't like marching to the beat of other person's drums.
They feel compelled to be in charge of their own destinies as much as possible, and to live life according to their beliefs.
Do it your way, young entrepreneurs!

Entrepreneurs are intelligent risk-takers

Entrepreneurs are calculated risk-takers. Just imagine starting a new innovation ...it's like jumping out of a parachute from a helicopter...you're not really sure where you're gonna land. But through Faith and an innate sense of optimism - the entrepreneur takes the Jump!

Entrepreneurs and PASSION

As a young entrepreneur, I am excited about my latest passion -  book writing and publishing.
I have invested sleepless nights, driven by the desire to complete my book project and  to do so within a set time frame, however, it really seems to be true that whatever can go wrong will. So, here are some of my findings from that experience, to help with warding off eventualities:

See if you can choose to do something you are passionate about, so that you can enjoy doing it 24/7 and  smile

Me, I believe we need to equip ourselves with excellent time-management skills, especially if you, like me, tend to procrastinate- do your tasks well ahead of due date.
I take  one step at a time, following a scheduled time-line, and as time flies by, so do the tasks.
Love your customers and aim to give value, above and beyond what is expected.
Enjoy the process, because you can never experience it again exactly. Don't miss the fun in the experience or it's hardly worth doing.SMILE!

Entrepreneurs in a highly competitive market, need to offer a unique experience

Michael Ammar Jnr and Judi Emanuel
Entrepreneurs like retailer, Michael Ammar maintain market share by offering value for  money, through quality products and comfortable and enjoyable shopping experience.
It was interesting to discover just how alert and aware of customer's needs and desires the entrepreneur has to be, in order to survive. Downtown Kingston is teeming with wholesale stores which bring in goods illegally and pass on huge savings to consumers. Mr. Ammar must successfully compete in this unfair and aggressive marketplace, or fold; like so many other stalwart businesses on King's Street- some over 70 years old.
Good luck young entrepreneurs as you seek that 'thing' which nobody else has and bring it to the market!
